Here at LittleOak, our commitment to you and your little one goes beyond what’s in their bottle. It’s reflected in the ingredients we thoughtfully select, the fresh goat milk we source, the standards we uphold for quality and safety, and the choices we make to reduce our environmental footprint.
Certified 100% palm oil free.
A world first.
Oils play an important role in infant formula, helping provide the essential fatty acids that babies need. But when it comes to choosing the oils for our blend, we're a pretty picky bunch.
That's why LittleOak became the first formula in the world to be certified 100% palm oil free by the Palm Oil Free Certification Accreditation Programme (POFCAP), a global, independent, not-for-profit programme that assesses products and companies for palm oil and its derivatives.
Not only can palm oil production contribute to deforestation, threatening the habitats of endangered species, but scientific studies suggest that palm oil in infant formula may reduce the absorption of calcium, certain fats and DHA. It can also contribute to the formation of calcium soaps in the gut, which may lead to firmer stools and constipation in some babies.
From farm to formula
Our goat milk formula begins on our New Zealand farm near Palmerston North, where our Saanen dairy goats are primarily fed grass grown and harvested on the farm. We only want milk from healthy, happy goats, so we look after them carefully. Their health is monitored throughout the milking season, alongside annual veterinary checks.
We milk our goats daily in small batches, and it's this fresh goat milk that forms the starting point for our formula. Each 800g can starts with nearly three litres of fresh goat milk, rather than pre-dried milk powders. As part of our From Fresh approach, we spray-dry our milk just once, reducing the number of heating steps involved in traditional formula processing.
We're just as thoughtful about the ingredients that go into our formula. Each is chosen for its quality and nutritional role, from our unique oil blend including cold-pressed olive, coconut, flaxseed oils to sustainably sourced DHA from algae and ARA from fungi. Our formula is made without palm oil, canola oil, soy, GMOs, added sucrose or corn syrup. Learn more about our ingredients.
Our quality and safety commitment
As a team of mums and dads, we know how important it is to feel confident in the nutrition you choose for your little one. Crafted in New Zealand, our goat milk range is formulated in line with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) requirements for nutritional composition and safety, within New Zealand’s food safety regulatory system overseen by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
Our infant formulas are made in facilities certified to internationally recognised food safety and quality standards, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice). These help maintain carefully controlled, hygienic conditions throughout production.
We’re proud to have received the Clean Label Project Purity Award. As part of this recognition, our 800g cans were independently tested for more than 120 environmental and industrial contaminants, including heavy metals.
We also test every batch of LittleOak for heavy metals and publish our testing results on our website, so you can learn more about the checks we carry out as part of our approach to quality and safety.
Thoughtful choices for packaging and shipping
We’ve making considered choices about how LittleOak orders are packed and shipped in Australia. Our cardboard boxes are made from recycled materials, our 800g cans are fully recyclable, and we’ve replaced plastic bubble wrap with paper bubble wrap. We’ve also switched from PVC to paper tape and removed paper packing slips from online orders, saving 70,000 pieces of paper, the equivalent of around seven trees.
